CONSOMMATION D’ENERGIE ELECTRIQUE, INVESTISSEMENT PRIVE, EMPLOI ET CROISSANCE ECONOMIQUE AU BENIN

Résumé


La présente étude s’intéresse au lien entre la consommation d’énergie électrique l’investissement privé, l’emploi et la croissance économique au Bénin dans un cadre d’analyse multivariée en utilisant l’approche de cointégration de Pesaran et al. (2001) par un modèle Auto Régressive à Retards Distribués (ARDL). Une relation de long terme a été établie entre ces variables sur la période allant de 1971 à 2009. L’étude établie aussi une relation de causalité de Granger de court et de long terme entre les variables allant de l’investissement privé, du PIB à la consommation d’électricité ; de la consommation d’électricité, du PIB et de l’emploi vers l’investissement privé puis de la consommation d’électricité, du PIB et de l’investissement privé vers l’emploi. L’absence de causalité allant de l’électricité vers la croissance décrit bien l’économie béninoise qui demeure encore très rurale et très peu dépendante de l’électricité.
